There are so many great songs. As soon as I think I might be done, I think of another. And I’m sure when I’m done with all of these, I’ll look back and think, “How could I not have thought of THAT.”

Actually, I did that earlier today thinking about B. How the hell did I miss Brandy!? That’s my all time favorite horrible song. That song is bad. I mean, awful. But, God help me, I love it so. Yet, totally missed it. So, dammit, here it is, because, Brandy, you’re a fine girl. Brandy not your taste? Scroll down to the Fs.

Also, fuck you (I say in a friendly way), Brandy is a fine girl!

Family Tradition

If you’ve not been in a bar at 2:00am when someone puts Hank Jr. on the jukebox and sang along with about the entire bar, then you’re missing out on one of the good things in life. Bonus points if you’re playing pool and there’s a pitcher of beer sweating on a table nearby.

Hank, why do you drink (to get drunk)

Hank, why do you roll smoke (to get stoned)

Why must you live out the songs that you wrote (to get laid)

Free Four

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. My favorite album isn’t Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, or Meddle. It’s Obscured By Clouds. Which is the soundtrack to some indie movie or other I’ll get around to watching one day (Floyd also did the More soundtrack, also a great, subdued, chill album). I have no idea why or how I found this album – bargain bin or something maybe. Regardless,

The memories of a man in his old age,
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.

Love that opening.

And

Life is a short warm moment
And death is a long cold rest.

Funny, it’s not one of the best Pink Floyd songs, but, there it is, still one of my favs.

Five Pounds of Possum (in my headlights tonight)

Parenting win – when the girls where 9 and 6, they could sing this song verbatim. And liked doing it. They won’t admit to it now, but they like it. Down deep. They do.

This is another entry courtesy of Oxford American. Seriously, pick up a copy.

There are tons of versions of this song. All varying degrees of awesome (unless you’re actually desperate enough to need to run over a possum for dinner, then it’s a bit sad).

Fat Bottomed Girls

I just wanted to get a Queen song in here because everyone needs a naughty nanny. And, if Queen ever tours with Adam Lambert again, go. Just go.

Faith

Long before I met George, I was driving down Ruth Street in Sulphur, windows down on my Chevy Spectrum, Faith blasting out on the cassette tape. At one point in my life, I had 500 dollars to my name. I spent $300 putting in a decent tape deck and radio and a speaker. To this day, some of the best money I ever spent.

R.I.P. George Michael, one of the greatest singers of our generation.

Free Fallin’

If this song comes on the radio in the summer, you must immediately roll your windows down, turn the radio up, and sing at the top of your voice.

After a Tom Petty concert years ago, spending the extra $1500 on the minivan TV/VCR package came in handy as the ex and I chilled in the back watching an episode or two of Friends as the parking lot cleared.

Sing with me . . . “She’s a good girl . . . “

Fucking Perfect

I love that I was right from the beginning that Pink was more talented than Spears. This is mostly how I feel about my girls.

  1. It’s good to see that we share a love of Obscured By Clouds, although my favorite song off that album was always Absolutely Curtains. I’m not sure I would still enjoy listening to it, but I totally understand why spending that $300 was a good decision.

    1. Love that one too, Dan. But, doesn’t start with an F and I like the happy — kinda jaunty — sound of the music and then the lyrics, which are . . . not dark, but heavier. Or something. You’re the first person I know who also likes Obscured By Clouds. It’s obviously for elite, discriminating tastes!
