I Love You, Honey Bunny #SoCS

Buns, Dudes, and Bunnys Stream of Consciousness SaturdayI love Pulp Fiction.

It’s one of my all-time favorite moves. I’ve probably watched it – in whole or in part – 50 times by now. A favorite memory is watching it stoned out of my gourd at Bethesda Draft House (I think that was the name, closed now) and loving the Travolta driving seen because I was feeling about like that.

And how cool was it seeing John Travolta in the Jack Rabbit Slim dance contest? From the Sweathogs to Danny and Summer Lovin’ to Staying Alive and the white disco suit to Urban Cowboy, he had a great run. Then there was Look Who’s Talking and Two of a Kind with my childhood crush, Olivia Newton John (saw that in the Sulphur move theatre, just next to the poop plant and about a 5 minute bike ride from Meme and Pawpan’s, with Lee) and assorted other bad films he kinda tapered off.

And then the dancing hitman with Samuel Jackson as partner turned his career back around. Get Shorty was soon after (also – great book, everyone should read at least one Elmore Leonard book) and career back on track.

Travolta might be as nutty as a bag of peanuts, but Pulp Fiction makes up for at least some of it.

Urban Cowboy, also a damn good movie. Everytime I watch it I always wish I had gone to Gilley’s – I think it was still open when I was in college.

And, with that overlong intro, it’s another Stream of Consciousness Saturday, inspired by “bun.”

Now, the other thing I thought of at about the same time as “I love you, Honey Bunny.” was a Bugs Bunny cartoon, The Big Lebowski, honey buns, and, because – of course, a nice ass.

“Bun” is a pretty flexible word – covering food items, a term of endearment, and a piece of anatomy.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “bun.” Find a word that contains “bun” or use it as a word all by itself. Have fun!

I grew up watching Loony Tunes on Saturday mornings. Kill the Wabit was an early introduction to classical music. And I had always thought the humor wasn’t the same as the other Saturday morning cartoons (when I discovered that they were shorts for showing before movies, the penny dropped on that one).

Anyway, love me some Bugs and Daffy. One of my favorites was the giant snowman that thought Daffy was a bunny. “I will love him and pet him and name him George.”

Who knew that 40 years later I’d have my very own George to love and hold and pet. I also still giggle when I think of the pause on the other end of the line when I told my Mama I was dating “George.” And, yeah, I left the “ina” out on purpose.

Oh, yeah, bun in the oven – even more versatile.

Honey buns are something I used to eat all the time. I don’t think I’ve had one in five years now (a good thing, cuz they ain’t healthy). But a honey bun with all that glorious icing first thing in the morning is a delight. I do gaze at them longingly every time I buy bread at Giant. I wish they would move them – and the rest of the Little Debbie family (Zebras, Ho-Hos, and, my breakfast of choice throughout most of high school – Oatmeal Cream Pies).

I’m about to do a little drooling.

And the last “bun” I thought of was Bunny, from The Big Lebowski – another movie I’ve seen 50 or so times. I still can’t get over the Kenny Rogers was in a psychadelic group before he became The Gambler and sings “What Condition My Condition Was In.”

Bunny. Gives us the MO-ni, Lebowski. Nice marmot. We cuts off your Johnson! Shut the fuck up Donny! No, I’m the Dude, You’re Mr. Lebowski. I will take that gun away from you and stick it up your ass and pull the trigger til it goes “click”. You don’t fuck with the Jesus. Woo!

The Dude Abides.

Damn, I love that movie.

Oh, You’re Bunny.

Two R-rated movies with lots of drug use, one with lots of violence, and a cartoon are what I thought of…

Not entirely sure what that says about me.

Oh well, at this point, it is what it is.

This blog reads better, by the way, if you imagine it’s Sam Elliott narrating as he does in The Big Lebowski.

The Dude abides.
