Valiant.

It’s hard these days, but all of us need to be valiant in the face of the corruption and outright evil emanating from the Oval Office now and for the past three years. And in the face of the incredible stupidity and ignorance (that’s always been a part of the American tradition) of a too-large segment of America.

Today’s prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday from Linda G. Hill is “val.”

Boldly courageous. Stout-hearted. Brave.

We need these things to get through our trying times. OTH, the times, they are always trying. It’s easy to look back at history as simple facts that happened. But real people lived through those events — war, famine, terror, economic distress, slavery — and experienced the same trauma (and joy, there’s always joy too) we’re all feeling today.

At least unlike the bubonic plague, this pandemic won’t wipe out 40% (plus or minus) of the population.

That went a bit sideways from the first thing I thought of when I saw the prompt for today, which was an immediate thought about Prince Valiant, the Sunday comic strip.

As much as I enjoy the Arthurian legends, I’ve never been able to get into that one and always skip over it. I like the art and the idea, but it’s never grabbed me — even as a D&D loving 8 year old.

Isn’t there a movie with chickens called Valiant? Mel Gibson or something and a “prison break” and something about chickens building an airplane to fly the coop (I kill me)?

OK, there is a movie named Valiant, but it’s about carrier pigeons or something. I was describing the plot to Aardman Animation’s Chicken Run, which is pretty good from what I can remember. Though not as good as the brilliance of Wallace and Gromit.

I also thought of valium and that taking one a day through to the end of this shit-show of a presidency sounds pretty damn good some days.

What valium is not good for is driving, which I’m about to go do; delivering for Uber Eats and seeing where the random assortment of deliveries takes me today. Will it be south and east to the Renn Fest grounds? Will it be north of 895 and about 20 miles or so from Pennsylvania? Will it be Fells Point in Baltimore or the urban desert a half mile north of there?

Who knows.

As I was looking up an image to use, I discovered that Valiant is also a car model. Actually, a bunch of them from different manufacturers. Here’s a pic for any gear heads out there.

  1. Oh my, yes, how appealing it is to take a Valium or two a day until this shit is over! I take Ativan as needed, but can only have two or three a week at most because otherwise I’d be addicted at least physically within a month.

I’d never heard of these movies you mention.
